Marae Set and Set of 5 Whānau
Marae Set and Set of 5 Whānau
In Māori culture, the marae is a place where the culture can be celebrated, where the Māori language can be spoken, where intertribal obligations can be met, where customs can be explored and debated, and where family occasions such as birthdays and tangi can be held. The marae is a wāhi tapu, a 'sacred place' which carries great cultural meaning to Māori.
By intergrating Te Reo Culture in your tamariki's everyday learning, it fits in with the Te Whariki Strand of children belonging. It encourages children to explore their culture in imaginary and cultural play.
